What is a Diversity Champion?
The Diversity Champion Mentorship Initiative helps employers successfully attract, recruit and retain persons with disabilities while becoming active participants in a Diversity Champion mentoring network.
One is six people in Alberta have a disability. This includes visible disabilities, such as visual impairment and physical disabilities, and invisible disabilities such as hearing loss, learning disabilities and mental health issues. In Calgary, this enormous talent pool goes largely untapped.
This program:
- Trains front-line supervisors, mid-level managers and HR staff to create an inclusive workplace culture.
- Includes five half-day dynamic, interactive workshops, examining the business case for inclusion, current legislation, economic and labour market climates and inclusion staffing, retention and mentoring.
- Provides customized inclusion coaching and best practices support.
- Promotes and recognizes the network of Diversity Champions, employers who wholly embrace diversity and inclusion.
